FOO Mix Volume 10 is a tribute to Tom Chatziapostolou aka DJ Stashwell by his DJ partner T-Sex. Tom tragically passed away in Bristol on 29th September 2011 aged just 22. During his time as a DJ he could often be found spinning grime and bassline music around Bristol. He was also a huge part of legendary festival staple Dance Off as the resident DJ and Greek hero.
“The mix was recorded back in April this year over the course of two weeks. The weather was starting to turn, the days getting longer and the excitement of summer was approaching. We spent two weeks talking about it, getting tunes together and then eventually recording it in my studio in Montpelier. Stashy and I thought it would be funny to bill ourselves as ‘Bristol’s number one Grime and Bassline Duo’. Seeing as there wasn’t anyone doing that already, all we had to do was record a mix.
The working title was ‘Show Us The Money’ but ironically we weren’t too fussed if we got paid, as long as there was a few drinks and people to dance to the tunes. This is the original version, there was talk of getting back in the studio to re-record it but our work at festivals and parties meant we ran out of time.
Whether we were sober and serious, wild eyed or sleep deprived or just having a laugh, I loved djing with Tom. I loved every very second of it. On radio, at festivals, in clubs or in the studio, playing music with him was one of my favourite things to do.
He was an incredibly warm and amazing person with an infectious energy that would light up the room and the dance floor. He will always be remembered for his incredible smile, huge laugh and of course, his music.
One day we will be able to DJ together again. Hopefully topless, on a boat with the sun blazing, surrounded by ladies with a load of new bassline in the bag.
As he would say “Adeboombye, for the ladies!”
